The Ceiling Rose / Center, throughout English history, has provided a promise of secrecy, the rose, suspended above a meeting or dining table symbols the freedom to speak freely without consequence. The actual carving of a rose on a ceiling was made for this reason at the time of Tudor King Henry VIII. This has evolved over 100s of years into a beautiful item of building vernacular architecture, to such a point that it now represents a term for a circular device that hides and holds the electrics for a ceiling light fitting.
